Taking a client-centered approach to representation, we work to identify each client’s goals and objectives as early as possible and work closely with them toward achieving the most favorable outcome. To this end, we diligently investigate the prosecution’s claims, including aggressively pursuing discovery concerning the allegations in order to allow us to provide informed advice and counsel.
Connecticut is unique in that there are a number of pretrial diversion programs available for those with no or with limited prior contact with the criminal justice system. Because individuals who qualify for and successfully complete such programs can have all charges dismissed and all arrest records erased, we do, when appropriate, recommend pursuing such an approach. In other cases, the nature of the allegations and circumstances surrounding the prosecution require an aggressive attack on the charges, and we proceed accordingly.
In every case, Frost | Bussert attorneys work with the client on a strategy for trial and determine how pretrial motions may facilitate a favorable outcome for the client. We frequently file motions to dismiss or motions to suppress based on illegal interrogation by law enforcement, violation of the right to counsel, illegal searches, use of suggestive identification procedures, or other improper police conduct. We aggressively pursue these motions where appropriate and have used them successfully as part of our trial strategy – in many cases, they can lead to a favorable resolution of the charges. If the state persists in prosecuting the case, we put forth an aggressive defense at trial.
